De Block Records 10th Complete Game Shutout to Lead Tigers Past Chargers

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Softball team won their series against UAH after defeating the Chargers, 3-0 in Game Three.

Before Game Three began, the Tigers (37-11-1, 22-8 GSC) and Chargers (32-19, 16-14 GSC) resumed Game Two where UAH took an 11-5 win. West Alabama bounced back in Game Three behind another gem performance from Eleanor De Block. De Block registered her 10th complete game shutout of the season, holding the Chargers to just one hit.

GAME TWO: UAH 11, UWA 5

On Friday afternoon, UAH took an early lead in the first inning. Jill Cockrell scored on a single by Kylie Ballentine, and Brittany Slaten scored on an error, making it 2-0. West Alabama responded with Ann Marie Stanbridge scoring on an infield fly by ShaKeria Washington to make it a one run game.

In the second inning, the Chargers extended their lead with a two-run homer by Alexa Douthitt, bringing the score to 4-1.

The Chargers added three more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Douthitt and an RBI single from Kylee Smith, increasing their lead to 7-1. UAH went on to add three more runs, putting UWA in a nine-run hole.

The Tigers rallied in the fifth inning with a three-run effort. Ella Watson scored on a double by Washington, followed by a two-run single by Kayla Morris that brought in Trinity Hatcher and Washington. The inning ended with the Chargers leading, 10-4.

With the score sitting at 10-4, the game was suspended due to weather and picked back up on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

As play resumed on Saturday,  the Chargers scored another run on a throwing error, making it 11-4 in the sixth. West Alabama managed to score once more in the seventh inning when Carolyn Cagle scored on a wild pitch as UAH went on to win 11-5.

GAME THREE: UWA 3, UAH 0

West Alabama secured a victory over the Chargers with a 3-0 win in Game Three to secure the series. The first five innings showcased strong pitching from De Block and UAH's Katie Bracken, keeping the game scoreless. 

In the sixth inning, the Tigers broke the deadlock. Trinity Hatcher hit a home run, driving in the first run of the game. Shortly after, Kayla Morris hit a two-run homer, giving West Alabama a 3-0 lead. 

De Block retired the Chargers' side with ease in the seventh to secure UWA's 37th win of the season.

Hatcher recorded a home run, contributing one run and one RBI in the game. Morris added a home run as well, securing two RBIs and scoring one run. Watson collected one hit and successfully stole a base. On the mound, De Block finished with a pitching line of 7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 6 SO.

West Alabama remains tied for first in the GSC. The Tigers will be back in action next weekend against Mississippi College with a chance to capture the GSC Regular Season Championship.
