LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama women's soccer team will hit the road for the first time this season on Tuesday, September 1, as the Tigers travel to take on the Montevallo Falcons in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
West Alabama enters Tuesday's contest with a 1-0 overall record after opening the season with a 1-0 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday at the UWA Soccer Field.
The Tigers' offense was led by junior
Allie Kimbrell, who provided the lone goal of the match against the Panthers. Kimbrell finished with one shot and converted it for her first goal of the season and the game-winning goal.
West Alabama generated 16 shots in the season opener, placing six on target.
Kya Jacobs and
Sofia Lacey each recorded a team-high four shots, while Jacobs put two attempts on goal.
Mikaela Carpino added two shots with one on target, while
Holly Gillies also registered a shot on frame.
Defensively, the Tigers were anchored by goalkeeper
Yumari Hernandez, who recorded a clean sheet in her first start of the season. Hernandez played all 90 minutes and stopped all four shots she faced to earn the shutout.
West Alabama also held an advantage in corner kicks, 5-3, against Kentucky Wesleyan.
SCOUTING MONTEVALLO
Montevallo enters the matchup with a 1-0 record after opening its season with a 4-1 victory. The Falcons' attack produced 16 shots, including 11 shots on goal, in their season opener.
Lainey Farabaugh leads the Montevallo attack with one goal and one assist while recording six shots and five shots on target. Karsyn Ross also posted a goal and two assists on two shots, while Ayla Ertekin and Shelby Irwin each found the back of the net once.
Goalkeeper Jolie Cazale started the Falcons' opener and played all 90 minutes. She allowed one goal while making three saves.
SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday's matchup marks another chapter in a competitive series between West Alabama and Montevallo. The Falcons currently hold a 5-4-3 advantage in the all-time series against the Tigers. Also holding the advantage at home is the Falcons, with a 3-2-2 record.
With both teams entering Tuesday's contest at 1-0, West Alabama will look to even the series with a victory in its first road match of the 2026 season.
