BLUFFTON, S.C. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team will hit the road Saturday, September 5, traveling to Bluffton, South Carolina, for an 11 a.m. CT matchup against USC Beaufort.
The Tigers enter the contest with a 1-1-0 record after opening the season with a split of their first two matches. Saturday's contest will mark the first meeting between West Alabama and USC Beaufort, as well as the first time the Tigers have faced a team from South Carolina.
LOOKING TO BUILD OFF OFFENSIVE START
West Alabama has found the back of the net twice through its first two matches, with
Allie Kimbrell and
Campbell Wysong accounting for the team's two goals.
Kimbrell has been one of the Tigers' most productive offensive players early in the season, scoring once on two shots while placing her lone shot on target. Wysong has also recorded one goal on two shots, with one shot finding the target.
Kya Jacobs has provided another offensive threat, leading the Tigers with six shots, including three on goal.
Sofia Lacey has added five shots, while
Mikaela Carpino and
Isabella Frullaney have each recorded two shots.
As a team, West Alabama has registered 20 shots through two matches, putting eight on target. The Tigers have also earned 11 corner kicks.
DEFENSE ANCHORING THE TIGERS
Sophomore goalkeeper
Yumari Hernandez has started both matches for West Alabama, playing all 180 minutes. Hernandez has made 12 saves while posting a .750 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average.
The Tigers have limited opponents to a .111 shooting percentage, with Hernandez and the UWA defense combining for one shutout through the opening two matches.
SCOUTING USC BEAUFORT
USC Beaufort enters Saturday's matchup with a 2-1-0 record after three games. The Sand Sharks have scored nine goals while allowing six.
Erin Barrett leads the USC Beaufort attack with three assists and nine shots, including four on goal. Gabriela Colon has contributed one goal and one assist on three shots, while Nicole Gray has added one goal and two shots.
Mayli Hepfer and Kassi Martin have each recorded one goal, while Kate Johnson, Lauren Carmichael, Kate James, and Sophia Willis have also contributed to the Sand Sharks' attack.
USC Beaufort has recorded 34 shots through three matches, with 19 finding the target. The Sand Sharks have also earned 22 corner kicks.
In goal, Graysen Asher has played the majority of the minutes, recording three saves and a .750 save percentage while allowing three goals in 195:07 of action.
FIRST MEETING
Saturday's match will be the first-ever meeting between West Alabama and USC Beaufort. It will also be the first time in program history that the Tigers have faced a team from South Carolina.
West Alabama will look to return to the win column and improve to 2-1-0 on the season when the Tigers take the pitch Saturday morning.
Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT in Bluffton, South Carolina.
