MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of West Alabama men's and women's cross-country teams opened the 2026 season Saturday night at the Memphis Twilight, with the men's team finishing 13th and the women's team finishing 17th overall.
In the men's four-mile race, West Alabama scored 391 points, led by Sha'Kenye Darden, who placed 73rd overall with a time of 21:23.65. Mathis Breton followed closely behind in 75th place with a time of 21:27.52.
On the women's side, the Tigers scored 497 points in the 5K. Miriam Dominguez-Tellez led UWA with a finishing time of 20:42.83, followed by Rita Walker at 20:46.97.
West Alabama will return to action on Friday, Sept. 18, at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Ala.
