UWA Picks Up A Pair Of Wins At Henderson State Invite

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –  The University of West Alabama volleyball team swept a pair of matches on Friday at the Henderson State Invitational.  UWA blanked Arkansas Tech to open the day and finished off host-Henderson State in a 3-1 affair.  The two wins over the two Gulf South Conference West Division foes pushes UWA's winning streak to a conference-best 14 matches.

The Tigers, 23-5, have surpassed last year's win total with Friday's victories and are four wins shy of equaling the 2007 squad's 27 wins. UWA edged ATU (17-10) 25-23 and 25-22 before trouncing the Green and Gold 25-13 to clinch the match.  Against HSU (11-13), the Red and White took the first two sets by identical scores of 25-20.  The Lady Reddies staved off the sweep with a 25-13 third-set win.  The Tigers turned back HSU 25-22 in the fourth set.

Senior Jessica Crook led a trio of Tigers who posted double figure kill totals against HSU.  Crook turned in a season-best 23 kills along with nine digs.  The Ohatchee, Ala.-product has turned in double digit kill totals in nine of her last 11 matches.  She finished with only six miscues on 45 total attempts (.378).  Crook added nine kills against the Golden Suns.  Senior Jordan Kent posted back-to-back double digit kill outings with her 14 kill performance against the Lady Reddies.  The Decatur, Ala.-native registered a match-high 12 kills in the ATU tilt.  Senior Ana Gabriela Pedrosa was credited with her ninth double-double of the season with ten kills and ten digs.  Junior Thais Hollerbach paced UWA in digs in both contests, carding six and 14 respectively.

The Tigers close out their weekend trip to Arkadelphia, Ark. against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
