North Alabama Downs UWA 3-1 IN GSC East Volleyball Action

FLORENCE, Ala. –  The University of West Alabama volleyball team dropped second-straight Gulf South Conference East Division match, falling to in-state rival North Alabama, 3-1 on Friday night.

The Lions started the match with an opening set 25-22 win before the Tigers evened the affair with a 25-16 second set win.  UNA outlasted UWA in the third set, 30-28 and finished off the match with a 25-20 win.  With the win, UNA improves to 17-13 overall and 6-3 in the GSC East.  UWA falls to 25-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

UWA finished with three players in double figure kills, led by senior Jordan Kent's match-best 18 kills.  Junior Thais Hollerbach turned in her second-straight double-double with a 14 kill, 16 dig outing.  Senior Jessica Crook registered 13 kills in the setback.  Senior Chanelle Esteban tallied a match-high 25 digs.  Sophomore Alexis McHale dished out 49 assists and came up one dig shy of recording a double-double.  As a team, UWA out-hit the Purple and Gold .244 to .202 but the Lions took advantage of ten service aces. 

UNA's offensive charge was paced by Sarah Roberts, who carded 17 kills.  Lauren Greenhill finished with 20 digs.

UWA returns to action on Monday, Nov. 2, traveling to Huntsville, Ala. to face the Chargers of UAH.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.  The Chargers downed West Georgia on Friday night, 3-0.
