Tigers Move Closer To A Share Of The GSC East Crown With Sweep Of West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team moved one step closer to at least a share of the Gulf South Conference East Division crown with a 3-0 sweep over West Georgia on Friday on the UWG campus.

UWA (27-7, 7-2 GSC East) made quick work of the Wolves – 25-15, 25-16 and 25-16.

With the sweep, the Tigers pushed their GSC East mark to 7-2 and matched the 2007 club for wins in a season at 27.  UWA and West Florida entered the weekend with 6-2 marks in the league with two matches remaining.  The Argos (18-13, 7-2 GSC East) downed Valdosta State 3-0 on Friday night.  The Tigers close out the weekend visiting the Blazers of VSU (15-11, 4-5 GSC East) on Saturday at 3 p.m. CST while UWF closes out the regular season slate at UWG (10-19, 1-9 GSC East).

The tandem of Jessica Crook and Jordan Kent paced the Red and White offensively.  Crook turned in a team-best 11 kills in the contest, while Kent nailed ten kills.  The Decatur, Ala.-senior turned in an error free night on 12 total attempts.  Junior Thais Hollerbach finished with a match-high nine digs. Senior Chanelle Esteban posted eight digs.  Sophomore setter Alexis McHale dished out 33 assists while senior Brittney Cousin was credited with a pair of block solos.

UWA closes out conference play on Saturday, Nov. 7, against Valdosta State.  Match time is set for 3 p.m. CST.
