LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women’s basketball team opens a four-game homestand on Saturday, Dec. 12 as UWA (2-5) faces Gulf South Conference West Division foe Christian Brothers. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Live stats will be available at athletics.uwa.edu along with a live stream broadcast via the B2 Network.
This marks the 14th meeting in the series between UWA and CBU (6-1) with the Red and White leading with an 8-5 all-time series record. The two teams met twice last season with each team holding serve on its home floor. The Tigers claimed the last meeting a 75-68 victory on Jan. 3.
After winning their first two contests of the year at Pruitt Hall, the Tigers, who enter the weekend after dropping five games in a row away from Pruitt Hall, seek to win its fourth straight contest on its home floor, dating back to an 82-80 overtime win against West Florida on Feb. 20 last season.
UWA freshman Brittany Yeager paces the team with 15.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game through the first seven outings. The Woodstock, Ga.-forward has tallied double figures in six of the seven contests, including four successive games in the double digits. Yeager posted a career-high 21 points in the Tigers last outing, a 76-68 setback against Eckerd in the West Florida Argo Classic. Yeager averaged 19.5 points and six rebounds in the two losses at the Argo Classic en route to being named to the All-Tournament Team.
CBU enters the contest having won its last six outings, including an 84-66 win over Blue Mountain (Miss.) College last Saturday. A quartet of Lady Bucs is averaging double figures in scoring led by 14.9 points from Tameka Wooten. Normanique Johnson is averaging a scoring clip of 13.9 points with Sheena DeBose averaging 12.1 and Jasmine Ellis averaging a double-double with 10.9 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.
Following the weekend action, West Alabama hosts NAIA member Shorter College on Tuesday, Dec. 15 with tip-off slated for 1:00 p.m. The four-game homestand includes inter-divisional contests with the University of Arkansas at Monticello and Southern Arkansas before the winter holiday break.
