LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team returns to Gulf South Conference action on Thursday, Jan. 14 as UWA (3-12) hosts North Alabama. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Live stats and a video stream of the game will be provided at athletics.uwa.edu.
The Tigers dropped their opening game of GSC play at West Florida , 72-59, last week. The loss handed UWA its third straight setback and 13th loss on the season. Junior Nicole Dames paced the Tigers in scoring at UWF with 13 points. Latashia Greer continues to provide a majority of the scoring for UWA as the junior from Dadeville, Ala. is averaging 19 points on the year. Greer also paces the Red and White on the boards with 7.7 rebounds per game.
UWA has won eight of the last 10 meetings with the Lions after the two teams split last season's contests. The Red and White picked up a 69-64 victory over the Lions in the last outing on Feb. 14, 2009.
UNA enters the contest 7-10 after splitting the first week of conference play. The Purple and Gold fell 76-60 to Valdosta State on Sunday to put them at 1-1 in the GSC. Niala Harris paces the Lions with 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Harris led UNA with 18 points in the setback against the Lady Blazers.
Following Thursday's action, West Alabama hosts Lambuth in non-conference action on Saturday, Jan. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Live stats and a video stream of the game will be provided at athletics.uwa.edu.
