UWA Drops Pair Of Matches At Crossover

LAKELAND, Fla. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team concluded play at the South Region Crossover with a pair of losses to Lynn University and the University of Tampa on Saturday, falling to 7-15 on the season.

The day began with a 3-0 loss to Lynn as the Fighting Knights won by set scores of 25-13, 25-6, and 25-16. The Tigers were outhit in the match by a .384 to -.041 margin. West Alabama was not able to get much going offensively due in part to an impressive 10 blocks by the LU defense.

Thais Hollerbach led all players in the match as she tallied eight kills, and Olivia Drew led UWA in assists with 10. Recording 12 digs, Casey Byrnes paced the Tiger defensive effort.

In the nightcap, the Tigers fell again by a 3-0 score. No. 3-ranked Tampa put together set marks of 25-14, 25-17, and 25-17.

Hollerbach again led the Red and White as she registered eight kills, and Katelyn Beardshear put together a solid offensive performance in the loss as she compiled seven kills and one error on 15 swings for a .400 hitting percentage. Alexis McHale led UWA with 19 assists.

Drew recorded nine digs to lead the West Alabama defense.

The Tigers will return to action back in Alabama on Tuesday, Oct. 19 as the squad will travel to Birmingham-Southern to face NAIA member Martin Methodist and BSC.
