Tigers Have Busy Slate Over Next Five Days

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – With a goal of placing itself back in the Gulf South Conference tournament picture, the University of West Alabama volleyball team will play four matches in five days with three against GSC opponents beginning with a Friday evening contest at West Georgia. Trips to Valdosta State and West Florida are also in store before the Tigers return home to face non-conference foe Montevallo on Tuesday.

Revenge will be on the mind of the Tigers as they own an 8-16 record including a 0-5 mark in GSC play.

UWA fell to West Georgia in Livingston by a 3-2 score on Sept. 24, and the win is the Wolves' lone victory in conference play. Katelyn Beardshear led the Tigers in the loss as she recorded a career-high 17 kills, and she was joined in double-figure kills in the contest by Olivia Drew and Thais Hollerbach who both collected 11. West Georgia sits at 6-19 (1-5 GSC), and the match in Carrollton, Ga. on Friday night begins at 6 p.m.

Saturday afternoon the Red and White will travel to Valdosta, Ga. to meet Valdosta State who defeated UWA 3-0 on Sept. 25. The Blazers are currently in first place, just percentage points of west Florida in the GSC East Division standings with a conference record of 5-1 to go along with an overall mark of 17-7.

Match time is set for noon.

The Tigers will take off Sunday and travel to Pensacola, Fla. for Monday night's showdown with rival West Florida. The two teams played to a closely-contested 3-1 Argo win at UWA on Sept. 30. Beardshear was impressive in that match as well as she hit at a .400 clip while racking up 11 kills and committing just four errors in 20 attempts.

The contest is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Following the trio of conference matches, UWA will get one last break from GSC play as it hosts Montevallo on Tuesday evening with the match beginning at 7 p.m. at Pruitt Hall. The match represents the first home game for the Tigers since Oct. 5.
