UWA Swept On The Road By Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at the hands of Valdosta State on Saturday. The loss drops the Tigers record to 9-17 (1-6 Gulf South Conference) while VSU improves to 18-8 (6-2 GSC).

The Blazers – 3-0 winners at UWA earlier this year – swept the season series from the Red and White with set scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-17 as they controlled play through much of the contest on the strength of an impressive .374 hitting percentage. The visitors attempted to rebound from the first set loss with a strong start to the second, but VSU erased an early deficit in the frame by hitting at a .410 clip in the set.

The UWA offense was stifled in the match by an impressive performance up front as the Blazers tallied nine total blocks.

Thais Hollerbach recorded her 11th double-double of the season in the loss as she recorded 13 kills and 10 digs, and her 13 successful attacks marked her third-straight game with double-figures in kills. The senior led the Tigers in both categories.

Setter Alexis McHale paced UWA with 23 assists on the afternoon.

The Tigers will have Sunday off before traveling to Pensacola, Fla. on Monday evening to take on West Florida at 7 p.m. The Argos won the earlier meeting between the two schools 3-1 in Livingston.
