LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Making its fourth straight postseason appearance, the University of West Alabama volleyball team will meet Arkansas Tech in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament hosted by West Florida on Friday at 2:30 p.m. UWA enters the weekend as the East Division's fourth seed while Tech is the top seed from the West Division.
A year ago in the tournament the Tigers made it to the championship game before bowing out to this year's host.
The Tigers wrapped up regular season play with a 10-20 record and a 3-8 mark in conference play, while Arkansas Tech was an impressive 30-4 and 11-1 in the GSC.
Going into Friday's contest, revenge will be on the mind of both teams. A year ago at the GSC Tournament the Tigers slipped by Tech in the quarterfinals, winning by a 3-2 score, but the Golden Suns got the best of UWA this regular season as they swept a 3-0 decision at the UAH Invitational on Sept. 18.
2010 all-GSC player Thais Hollerbach led the Tigers in this season's match by recording seven kills and 10 digs.
The winner of the match will take on the winner of North Alabama and Christian Brothers.
