Tigers Claim 77-67 Victory at Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Senior Mystee Dale fell one rebound shy of recording a triple-double as the University of West Alabama women's basketball team claimed a 77-67 win at Christian Brothers on Saturday afternoon. Dale finished the contest with a game-best 22 points and 10 rebounds.

UWA - which improved to 6-2 on the season – shot 42 percent from the field in the win and tallied 40 of its 77 points in the paint. CBU (4-5) finishes the contest with 35 percent from the field.

Latashia Greer posted 21 points and hauled in 11 boards to tally her first double-double of the season. Larrenda Rockwell came off the bench with a season-high 13 points to round out the double figure scorers for the Tigers.

UWA – which trailed only once in the contest – rushed out to a seven point lead in the first seven minutes of the game. CBU chipped away at the deficit and with just less than six minutes to play forced the first tie of the outing at 29-all on a pair of free throws by Sheena DeBose. The Red and White answered with an 11-5 run to close out the opening half. Dale – a Laurel, Miss. native – provided seven of her 18 points during the final stretch of the first half.

A 6-2 early second half spurt by CBU nipped the Tigers' deficit to 42-41, but it would be as close as the Lady Bucs would get the remainder of the way as UWA quickly extended its margin to nine points on a trey by Rockwell with 12:42 remaining in the game. The Tigers reached their first double digit advantage of the game at 63-52 on a jumper by Greer at the seven minute mark.

After CBU pulled to within 63-57, UWA pushed its margin back to double digits on a trey by Dakota Powell with 3:15 – the Tigers largest lead of the game. Again the Lady Bucs narrowed the margin to six points but the Red and White connected on six consecutive free throws to ice the contest.

Marissa Stewart and Normanique Johnson led the Lady Bucs with 16 points each. DeBose led CBU on the boards with 10 rebounds.

West Alabama returns to action on Friday, Dec. 17 as UWA travels to the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
