UWA Prepared For Eventful Week

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team is set for a busy week that includes three home matches at Pruitt Hall. The squad will also begin conference play this week with three of the four being Gulf South Conference matches.

UWA enters the week with a 3-7 record, coming off of a split at the 2010 UAH Country Inn and Suites Invitational in Huntsville this weekend. The Tigers defeated Henderson State to snap a four-game losing streak but then fell to Arkansas Tech.

The Tigers will open the four-game slate with a non-conference match against Arkansas at Monticello on Monday in Livingston at 6 p.m. The Cotton Blossoms sit at 0-9 on the season having most recently lost a 3-1 decision at the hands of Lyon College. West Alabama owns a 2-1 advantage in the brief all-time series between the two programs, but the squads haven't met since a 3-1 UAM victory in 2005.

The next night, West Alabama will travel back to Huntsville. The match against Alabama in Huntsville will be the Tigers' first GSC contest of the year.

The quest to repeat as East Division champions begins against an UAH squad that West Alabama has defeated six consecutive times with the last Charger victory coming in 2006. Despite the recent success for the Red and White, UAH maintains a 26-8 advantage overall in the series.

The Chargers own a 3-8 record on the season and enter the Tuesday night contest on a two-game slide after dropping their own contests against Henderson State and Tech. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

West Alabama will take Wednesday and Thursday off before returning back to its home floor on Friday evening for a 7 p.m. contest against West Georgia. The Tigers own a 21-11 lead all-time against UWG and also have won four straight against the Wolves. West Georgia is 3-10 on the year and snapped a 10-match losing streak with a victory against Christian Brothers this past Saturday.

Concluding play for the week, UWA will play host to Valdosta State on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Blazers own the best record of any team West Alabama will face this week as they have compiled a 7-4 mark on the year. VSU was also in Huntsville this weekend and recorded wins over Henderson State and Christian Brothers.

UWA swept the two meetings last year and now hold a slim 16-15 advantage all-time.
