Tigers Fall In Three To Valdosta State

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – For the first time since the 2008 season, the University of West Alabama volleyball team has dropped three consecutive Gulf South Conference matches after a 3-0 loss to Valdosta State on Saturday. The Tigers fall to 4-10 (0-3 GSC) with the loss while VSU improves to 8-10 (1-1 GSC).

The first set was a close affair as it required two extra points for the Blazers to take a 27-25 victory. Further highlighting the tightness of the frame, the teams hit at an identical .263 clip. UWA's hitting percentage dropped to .083 in the second as the team committed seven errors in the set allowing the Blazers to win 25-17. VSU wrapped up the match with a 25-20 victory in the third.

For the match, the Tigers hit .165 while the guests registered a .252 hitting percentage.

Irene Hannan of Valdosta State led all players in the contest as she collected 17 kills, and Thais Hollerbach paced the Tigers with 10 on the day. Olivia Drew racked up 24 assists while teammate Alexis McHale picked up 12 to pull closer to 3,000 for her career.

Defensively, Casey Byrnes was tops on the team as she dug out 12 balls while VSU's Chelsea Luttfring led the game with 13.
