LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Attempting to earn its first conference win of the season, the University of West Alabama volleyball team will welcome Gulf South Conference rival West Florida to Pruitt Hall on Thursday. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
After picking up a non-conference victory over Arkansas at Monticello last Monday, the Tigers fell in five sets on Tuesday at Alabama in Huntsville and again went five in a loss to West Georgia Friday night. UWA concluded last week's crowded slate of games being swept by Valdosta State to enter Thursday night's match with a 4-10 (0-3 GSC) record.
Junior setter Alexis McHale enters the contest needing just 11 assists to reach 3,000 for her career. Should she accomplish the feat, the Sugar Land, Texas native would become just the second Tiger in program history to reach the mark while also pushing closer to taking over the top spot in the record books. Christy Rocks currently sits in first with 3,612 career helpers.
Facing a stiff test in their visitors from Pensacola, the Red and White will meet an Argos squad that enters the contest on a five-match win streak, including a 3-2 road victory over No. 24 Florida Southern on Monday. West Florida owns a 10-4 record and is 2-0 in GSC play after 3-0 wins over UWG and VSU.
The reigning GSC East Division Defensive Player of the Week is UWF's Katie Johnson as she led the Argos in digs in each of their three contests a week ago. She also recorded eight blocks and hit at a .388 clip.
