LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Looking to build off Tuesday's impressive victory against Alabama-Huntsville, the University of West Alabama volleyball team (17-8, 5-3 GSC) travels to the state of Georgia this weekend for a pair of road contests.
UWA faces off with West Georgia on Friday at 6 p.m., before heading south to take on Valdosta State on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Tigers will face two teams that they have already beaten this season. The Red and White ousted West Georgia by a score of 3-1, while dominating Valdosta State, 3-0, in contests earlier this year.
Coach Tabitha Turner's squad enters this weekend after defeating UAH Tuesday night at Pruitt Hall. In the team's second win of the season against the Chargers, UWA staved off an early loss in the first game to bounce back for a 3-1 win to move the team's conference record to 5-3.
UWA has now won four of its last five dating back to the squad's Oct. 11 meeting with Loyola (La.). Part of the team's mid-season success has been the play of freshman
Sadie Beam. In Tuesday's pivotal conference meet, Beam totaled a game-high 19 kills to help the Tigers to the win.
For the season, UWA has been paced by senior
Angela Sanders who holds the team lead with 275 kills. Meanwhile, junior
Chanel Davis has a team-high .337 hitting percentage, while senior
Casey Byrnes leads the squad with 328 digs, averaging just over four per set.
Following play this weekend, UWA returns home for the first of four-straight home contests to end the season. The Tigers face UNA next Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
