UWA Rolls Past West Georgia for Third-Straight Win

CARROLLTON, Ga. –  The University of West Alabama volleyball team (18-8, 6-3 GSC) picked up its second win of the season against West Georgia Friday night, defeating the Wolves by a score of 3-1.

With the victory, UWA has now won three in a row, dating back to Oct. 15. The Tigers have also triumphed in their second-straight conference match and have won five of their last six regular season contests.

Friday's affair in Carrollton, Ga., was much like the one earlier this season on the West Alabama campus. The Tigers were strong from the start in a quick first-set victory, helping to set the tone for the rest of the match. With the scored at 20-17 in the Tigers' favor during the crucial first game, UWA won five out of the next six points to jump out to a 1-0 lead.

It was much of the same in the second game, as UWA trailed only once on its way to a 25-17 triumph to go up 2-0. Meanwhile, the third game proved to be the toughest of the night for the Red and White, as UWG picked up its only win with a tight 25-23 triumph in that third set.

The Tigers were relentless throughout the evening, however, as UWA bounced back to seal the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth game.

UWA was led by another strong performance from Angela Sanders. The senior hit a game-high .421 clip with 19 kills and only three errors in 38 total attempts. Not to be outdone, fellow senior Alexis McHale added 53 assists to once again add to her record-breaking total.

Coach Tabitha Turner's team now heads to Valdosta, Ga., to take on Valdosta State Saturday afternoon at 1p.m.
