Tiger Volleyball Sweeps Valdosta State 3-0

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team concluded its weekend trip to Georgia with a 3-0 sweep of Valdosta State – improving to 19-8 overall and 7-3 in Gulf South Conference action. VSU falls to 14-13 on the campaign and 4-6 in conference action.

Close affairs through the first two sets, UWA pulled out a pair of victories at 25-21 and 25-23. The match clincher saw the Tigers pound the Blazers 25-19 – sealing a season sweep of the Red and Black this season.

Angela Sanders led the Red and White with 15 kills on the afternoon with Sadie Beam adding six and four coming from Olivia Drew and Taz Pitts. Alexis McHale continued to impress with 30 assists. Casey Byrnes recorded a team-best 18 digs along with three aces. Pitts also added a pair of aces in the win. The Tigers threw down a total of 22 blocks in the match as Chanel Davis led the way with nine blocks.

In just the first time the Blazers have been swept at home this season, Chelsea Logan led VSU with 12 kills with Tania Tauiliili pitching in seven while Jennifer Beatty finished with six. Ashley Lala tallied 32 assists while Krista Bradford led the team with 14 digs.

West Alabama closes out the season with a four-game homestand beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 25 when the Tigers face in-state foe North Alabama at 7 p.m.
