MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team (13-5, 4-1 GSC) could not overcome a strong surge from Montevallo Tuesday night, falling to the Falcons, 3-0.
UWA and Montevallo battled to the wire in the first set, going to extra points with the game tied at 24-24. The Falcons were able to clinch the elusive set, however, winning 26-24. From that point, the Tigers failed to rebound from the opening loss.
In the second and third games, the Red and White found it hard to build much momentum as Montevallo took a 25-20 win in the second and a 25-18 victory in the third.
The Tigers were led by junior
Chanel Davis who posted a .353 winning percentage in 17 total attacks, while
Casey Byrnes picked up eight digs on the night. Meanwhile, the Falcons were paced by a .737 hitting percentage from Ati Manyi.
UWA now travels to Memphis, Tenn., to take on Christian Brothers Friday night at 7 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. affair with North Alabama on Saturday.
