CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The University of West Alabama women's basketball program opened the 2011-12 season with an 89-58 loss to Florida Southern on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the Delta State hosted-Lloyd Clark Classic.
Senior
Danielle Cole led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points as she shot 60-percent from the floor in the opening game setback.
Despite holding advantages in points off turnovers and bench points, the Red and White couldn't overcome a 33-percent shooting performance as the Mocs hit 11 three-pointers en route to the 31-point victory.
After a 2-all tie in the opening minutes of the contest, that would be as close as the Tigers would get the remainder of the way as FSC pushed out to a 26-15 lead at the 8:57 mark on a trey from Megan Dzikas.
Nikkia Jordan did cut the double-digit margin to seven points on a layup with just under 6:30 to play in the first half.
UWA finished the night with a 37-percent shooting percentage for the game, including a 12-percent shooting effort from behind the arc. FSC connected on 49-percent of its shots from the field.
West Alabama returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 13 as the Tigers face Southern Arkansas at 4 p.m.
