Tigers Hoops Falls 64-59 to Montevallo at UWF Tip-Off Classic

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team dropped a 64-59 decision on Saturday afternoon to Montevallo in the final day of the West Florida Tip-Off Classic. The setback is the third straight for the Tigers, who fall to 1-4 on the season. UM improves to 2-3.

For the fourth straight game Brittany Weathers posted double figures with 12 points to accompany her team-best eight rebounds in the effort. Nikkia Jordan led the Tigers with 15 points.

West Alabama shot 41-percent from the field in the contest while the Falcons connected on 44-percent. UM hit 33-percent while the Tigers shot just 15-percent on the evening.

A 30-all contest at the half UM opened the second half on a 10-4 run to jump out to a 40-34 lead with just under 16 minutes to play. After cutting the lead to a couple points on a couple of occasions in the following minutes, the Tigers regained the lead at 48-46 for the first time since 10:10 in the opening half on a layup by Keiara Middleton.

The Falcons answered quickly with a 7-0 run to take a 53-48 advantage with 9:16 remaining, but again the Red and White cut into the lead and took a brief 55-53 lead on a layup by Jordan. Teanna Boxley's three-pointer with 6:48 remaining in the contest put the Purple and Gold back up 56-55 and UM would not relinquish the lead the remainder of the way.

Tiffany McClure led a trio of Falcons in double digits with 11 points. Alex Strickland and Davia Harris each added 10 points in the win. McClure also pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

West Alabama returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 30 as the Tigers travel to Miles College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
