Tiger Volleyball Hosts CBU on Senior Day

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Five seniors will take to the court for the final time at Pruitt Hall Friday evening, as the University of West Alabama volleyball team (20-10, 8-5 GSC) faces Christian Brothers at 7 p.m.
 
Head Coach Tabitha Turner and her staff will recognize the accomplishments of seniors Angela Sanders, Alexis McHale, Casey Byrnes, Olivia Drew and Hilary Lobenstein, who have compiled a total record of 82-50 (.621) in their time at UWA. Among other accomplishments, the team won at least 20 matches in three out of the four seasons, while also taking home the 2009 GSC East Division Championship.
 
Currently, the Tigers sit at fourth place in the Gulf South Conference in the final match of the season before the tournament next weekend in Pensacola, Fla. UWA has won seven out of the last 10, including conference wins against UAH, West Georgia, Valdosta State and New Orleans.
 
UWA is paced by Sanders, who leads the team with 338 kills, while junior Chanel Davis leads the squad with a .313 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, McHale has totaled 1,053 assists this season, averaging just over 10 assists per set.
 
CBU enters Friday's contest as the sixth-ranked team in the NCAA Division II South Regional Rankings. The Buccaneers are 23-8 this season, with a 9-3 record in conference competition.
 
West Alabama returns to action next weekend when the team competes in the 2011 Gulf South Conference Tournament on Nov.11-12 in Pensacola, Fla.
