Tigers Fall 64-60 Against Miles

LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- The University of West Alabama women's basketball team dropped its fifth straight as the Tigers (1-6) fell 64-60 to Miles College on Sunday afternoon at Pruitt Hall. The loss is the second to the Golden Bears in a week's time. Miles improves to 2-2 on the season.

Brittany Weathers totaled 18 points to lead the Red and White in scoring while pulling down team-best 10 rebounds. The performance is the third double-double of the season for the Hattiesburg, Miss., native. Nikkia Jordan joined Weathers in double figures with 10 points.

UWA led much of the contest, including holding a 10-point advantage with 3:31 left in the opening half, its largest lead of the game. MC would nip the margin to 32-26 at the intermission.

After the Golden Bears cut the lead to within three points in the opening minutes of the second half, the Tigers used a 9-4 run to extend its advantage to 41-33 with 15:56 left in the contest. Danielle Cole capped the spurt with two of her eight points. MC, however, continued to push further into the Red and White's margin – knotting the contest at 50-all with 9:41 left to play.

UWA regained a 55-50 edge with just under 7 minutes in the contest, but again the Golden Bears cut into the lead, this time taking a 57-55 lead with 4:40 to play on two of Sammeila Thomas' team-leading 17 points. MC never trailed again in the contest.

Despite holding the advantage on the boards at 49-38, the Tigers were outscored in the paint 30-20 by the Golden Bears. MC also edged out the Red and White in points off turnovers with 17 compared to UWA's 13.

West Alabama returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 11 as the Tigers host Spring Hill. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
