LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama women's basketball team looks to rebound from its second loss in three games on Tuesday as they travel to Valdosta, Ga. to take on Valdosta State in what could prove to be a pivotal game for the Tigers. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. CST. The game will be broadcasted locally on ESPN 104.9 and can also be heard at www.espn1049.com. UWA (15-4, 3-2 Gulf South Conference) enters the game after a duel up until the last minutes with North Alabama. The Red and White were once again plagued by the 3-pointer as UNA shot just under 63 percent behind the arch for the game. The Lions also dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the Tigers 40-19.
Mystee Dale led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points. LaShandra McCoy also registered a valiant offensive effort with 14 points. Rounding out the double digit scorers for UWA was LaTashia Greer as she chipped in 10 points.
Dale continues to lead the Tigers in scoring by knocking down 21.2 points per contest which is good for the third best mark in the NCAA. Behind her in offensive output are Greer who registers 12.1 points per game and McCoy who is scoring 11.1 rounds out the UWA scoring trio. Doing the dirty work on the boards are Dale and Greer who average 7.5 and 6.3 boards respectively.
Valdosta State (9-9, 3-2 GSC) prepares to defend home court coming off a 54-48 road loss at West Georgia. In the game, Sczeny Hartry paced the Lady Blazers with 14 points and her teammate Brittany Ferguson added 13 points and 10 rebounds. VSU struggled with turnovers, committing 24 against the Wolves. The battle on the boards, however, was won by the Blazers outrebounding UWG 40-27.
The Lady Blazer offense features a duo of double digit scorers. Ferguson leads the group with 12.8 points per game. Behind Ferguson, Hartly drops in 11.7 points per contest. The leading rebounder is Ferguson, pulling down boards at a rate of 8.8 per contest.
West Alabama returns to action Monday as they travel to Jackson, Tenn. to do battle with the Lambuth Lady Eagles. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
