MORROW, Ga. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision on Sunday afternoon at Clayton State. CSU - which improved to 2-2 on the season - outshot the Tigers 17-9 in the contest including 11 on goal compared to UWA's (2-2) six.
Natalia Valentine led the home standing Lakers with a pair of goals in the game. Valentine scored the first goal in the second minute of the outing as Becky Brown set her down the middle of the field. Valentine's second goal came in the 82nd minute when Angela Jolly assisted on a breakaway inside the penalty box. Patricia Olleros (34th minute) and Lusia Alvarez (54th minute) scored the remaining two goals for CSU with Doir McGruder providing assists on both goals.
Nicki Gears and
Jade Newton recorded multiple shots in the outing. Gears fired off a team-best three shots with two coming from Newton.
Giselle Rios,
Vicky Petrova,
Ashleigh Manuel and
Jen Crombie each took a shot in the contest.
Jess Martin (2-2) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Tigers collecting seven saves in the setback. Laoise O'Driscoll (2-2) picked up the win in net with five saves with the CSU team also recording a save.
West Alabama returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 14 as UWA plays host to Columbus State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium
