UWA Handles West Georgia 3-0 in Conference Opener

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – An overall strong effort from the West Alabama volleyball team (10-3, 1-0 GSC) propelled the Tigers over West Georgia Friday night by a score of 3-0 at Pruitt Hall.

“You get so excited and you prepare for conference play and this is where it counts,” said head coach Tabitha Turner. “I am very excited about the win tonight and the effort by these girls.”

With the victory, the Red and White move to 1-0 in conference play and add to their already strong start to the season. UWA pushes its record to 10-3 and has now won four in a row dating back to Sept. 10. It is the second-longest win streak of the early season, as the Tigers started this year off with six consecutive victories.

From the start of tonight's match, UWA took control and never looked back. The Tigers dominated UWG, playing the closest set of the night in the first that resulted in a 25-21 UWA win.

In the second and third games, the Red and White handled the Wolves, holding them to an attack percentage of .093. As a result, UWA took the second game by a score of 25-15, before winning the third, 25-18.

The Tigers had a strong effort by their middle hitters, as the team had a total of nine blocks in three games, with junior Tazra Pitts accounting for seven of those.

With the first conference victory of the season, UWA looks to continue to stay on a roll, playing host to Valdosta State on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall.
