UWA Hoops Fall in Conference Lid Lifter 63-55

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team had its four-game win streak snapped in a 63-55 loss to Alabama-Huntsville on Thursday, Jan. 5. The stumble pushes the Tigers back to 5-7 while UAH improves to 9-2 on the season.

The loss is just the second to the Blue and White in the last six outings, the last coming at UAH last season in a 78-74 decision.

Brittany Weathers paced the Red and White with 13 points while Nikkia Jordan chimed in 10. The double digit effort for Jordan, a native of Decatur, Ala., marks the fourth straight with seven on the season. Weathers, a Hattiesburg, Miss., product has tallied double figures nine times on the campaign. Jamie Gunter led the way on the glass with nine rebounds.

Jordan Smith guided a trio of Lady Chargers in scoring double figures with 20 points. Bailee Robinson finished with 12 points while Jasmine Hammon added 11 points. Natalie Kelley hauled in 11 boards in the victory.

The Tigers led a majority of the opening half and as much as five points, but trailed 32-31 at the break following a 6-0 UAH run to close out the stanza.

The two squads exchanged leads over much of the second half. Weathers tied the contest for the final time with 6:05 remaining in the contest, the ninth tie of the night, but the Lady Chargers rattled off a 13-5 run to close out the evening and leave Livingston with the eight point win.

UWA held a plus-11 rebound advantage in the contest and outscoring UAH 36-26 in the paint.
UAH however converted 23 Tiger turnovers into 29 points.

West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 7 as the Tigers host North Alabama. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Pruitt Hall. The game can be heard on ESPN 104.9 FM and www.uwaathletics.com.
