LIVINGSTON, Ala.Alex Brown celebrated his 20th birthday by scoring the game-winning goal to lift the University of West Alabama men's soccer team to a 2-1 Gulf South Conference overtime victory over Alabama-Huntsville Sunday at Tiger Stadium.

With the victory the Tigers finished the first regular season in school history with a 12-6 overall record, 8-4 in the GSC. UWA will be the second seed in the conference tournament that begins Friday in Pensacola, Fla. UAH wraps up its season 1-15 overall and 0-12 in the GSC.

“I am really proud of the lads,” UWA head coach Matthew Thorne said. “To finish 12-6 in our first year as a program is significant. Now we go into the conference tournament with some momentum.”

The game-winner was the third goal of the year for Brown, a freshman from Essex, England. Vitor Gazza scored UWA's first goal, his third of the season, at the 17:17 mark to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage at the break.

Assisted by Sam Dean and Kyle Simmons, UAH's Mitch Wilson tied the match at 1-1 with a goal at 62:26 to force the extra period. Keeper Kel Markert had 10 saves for the Chargers.
