LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After splitting a week ago, the University of West Alabama women's basketball team returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 16 as the Tigers travel to Valdosta, Ga. for a 5 p.m. start against the Lady Blazers. UWA (8-14, 3-7 GSC) looks to average a 68-58 loss to the Red and Black nearly a month ago. The outing is one of two remaining regular season, road contests for the Tigers on the campaign as UWA finishes the slate at West Georgia on Saturday, Feb. 25.
West Alabama had its two-game, win streak snapped in a 65-42 loss to Delta State on Saturday afternoon. The Red and White had rattled off wins at North Alabama (69-54) securing the season sweep of the Lions and followed that performance with a 53-39 victory over Christian Brothers.
On the season, pair of juniors has paced the scoring effort.
Brittany Weathers and
Nikkia Jordan have each averaged double figures this season with Weathers leading the way with 13.1 points per game. Jordan, who has the UWA in scoring during conference play, is second on the team with 11.8 points per outing. The duo rank among the GSC leaders in category at eighth and 11th respectively. Weathers, a Hattiesburg, Miss., native, sits as the leader in the conference in rebounding with 9 boards an affair.
The Lady Blazers enter Thursday's tilt riding a three-game, win streak. Over the span of the three victories, VSU has outscored its opponents by 10 points, including an 18-point decision at Christian Brothers. The Red and Black also logged wins over Alabama-Huntsville (65-55) and North Alabama (59-58) last week. The last VSU loss came in a 56-52 decision at Delta State on Feb. 2.
Brittany Ferguson serves as the catalyst for the Lady Blazers as she ranks second in the conference in scoring and rebounds with 17.2 points and 8.8 boards per contest. Sczeny Hartry also averages double digits in the scoring column with 11.1 points per game, which is 14th in the GSC.
Following Thursday's contest, West Alabama returns to Pruitt Hall to close out the home slate in a 2 p.m. contest against West Florida.
