Tigers Prepare for Gulf South Conference Tournament Run

LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- After closing the regular season winning its last three games, the University of West Alabama women's basketball team prepares for a run at the GSC Tournament title on Thursdaym Mar. 1 against the fifth-seeded West Florida at 5:30 p.m. The tournament will be played at The Arena in Niceville, Fla. The Tigers have won five of their last seven games, including three straight entering the conference tournament.

The conference appearance is the seventh consecutive and the 18th in program history. Head Coach Craig Roden is making his second straight trip to the conference tournament, the fifth at the helm of his alma mater and the 11th overall.

Brittany Weathers continues a long line of all-conference selections as she becomes the 32nd honoree in program history. On the season, the Hattiesburg, Miss., native is averaging 12.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game which rank among the leaders in the conference. The junior has totaled 14 games in double figures this season with seven double-doubles. Weathers scored a career-high 33 points in an 84-69 victory over Southern Arkansas earlier this season.

Joining Weathers in double digits scoring is Nikkia Jordan with 12.4 points. The Decatur, Ala., product has proven to be a catalyst during conference play as she leads the squad with 13.9 points per contest. The junior helped guide the Tigers to the fourth seed in the tournament tying a career-high mark of 23 points in a 63-48 win at West Georgia to close the regular season.

Junior Synthea Reed looks to etch her name in the program's record book as the Union, N.J., native is two blocked shots shy of tying the school's single season record of 45. Reed has amassed a total of 43 this season, including a career-high seven blocks at North Alabama on Feb. 4 en route to a 69-54 victory and season sweep of the Purple and Gold.

The Tigers split the season series with their conference tournament foe - winning 71-59 in Pruitt Hall. Weathers logged her most recent double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds on the way to the win.

Winner of the contest on Thursday advances to the 12:15 p.m. game against the winner of the Christian Brothers and Delta State.
