Tigers Take Season-Sweep of UNA with 69-54 Victory

FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak and completed a season sweep of North Alabama on Saturday afternoon with a 69-54 win over the Lions at Flowers Hall. The win improved the Red and White to 7-13 on the campaign and 2-7 in the Gulf South Conference.

Brittany Weathers led all Tiger scorers with 20 while Nikkia Jordan added 14 points. Synthea Reed did the major work on the glass with a team-best 10 rebounds.

UWA, which never trailed in the contest, took a 31-19 lead in at the break. The Tigers reached its largest lead of the game, 15 points, at the 6:34 mark of the opening 20 minutes . UWA never looked back in the second half shooting 50-percent from the field and an 80-clip from behind the arc.

The Red and White converted 14 Lion miscues into 21 points and even outscored the Purple and Gold with 15 second chance points in the victory.

UWA closed the contest shooting 48-percent from the field and 88-percent from behind the arc Both shooting percentages stand as season-bests.

Jasmine Horne led UNA with 24 points.

West Alabama returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 9 as the Tigers host Christian Brothers at 5:30 p.m. The game can be heard on ESPN 104.9 FM and www.uwaathletics.com.
