UWA Searches for Ninth Win Tuesday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Interim head coach Mike Shearer and the University of West Alabama volleyball team (8-3, 2-1 Gulf South Conference) step out of conference play Tuesday when the squad hosts Montevallo at Pruitt Hall. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.

UWA enters the match after a thrilling week in GSC play that saw the Tigers roll past Union, 3-0, before an improbable, 3-1, victory against North Alabama on Sunday.

Playing its ninth non-conference opponent on the year, UWA looks to build on its early success against teams outside of the GSC. The Tigers are 6-2 against non-GSC foes this season after impressive showings at the Henderson State and Alabama-Huntsville Tournaments.

Leading the Tiger charge so far this season has been freshman Morgan Ray, who still paces the squad with 123 kills on the season. As of late, the Tigers have also seen strong production from sophomore outside hitter Sadie Beam. The Addison, Ala., native posted 17 kills against UNA on Sunday and was pivotal in the Tigers come-from-behind win.

Montevallo enters the match at 6-6 on the year and has lost three-straight. Michelle Walker boasts a team-best .238 hitting percentage, while Betsy Stevenson paces her team with 207 assists on the year.

Following Tuesday's matchup, the Tigers step back into GSC action as the team hits the road with a contest against Shorter on Friday at 6 p.m.
