Box Score

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – West Alabama junior Traye Torrance scored his first goal as a Tiger as a game-winner in the 63rd minute to beat Alabama-Huntsville 2-0 in Gulf South Conference action on Friday.

"Before the game, defensively we wanted a clean sheet and that's what we got from the lads," said UWA head men's soccer coach Matthew Thorne.

"We had a lot of good individual performances tonight, but it was the overall team work that got us the win in the end. We are delighted to have Traye get his first mark of the season. It was a great road win for us."

Alabama-Huntsville (7-5-1, 5-5-0 GSC) out-shot West Alabama (8-4-1, 5-4-1) 15-11; 5-3 on-goal. The victory gives the Tigers its fourth shutout and a season sweep of the Chargers.

Torrance's goal came on a header off of a pass on a set piece by sophomore midfielder Thibault Charmey. Charmey struck again ten minutes later with his eighth goal of the year on a pass from freshman Luke Reeves.

The Tigers' starting goalkeeper Lavares Stone (7-2-1) posted five saves to tally his second shutout this season. UAH's Michael Winstone (2-1) made one save on two goals allowed to take the loss.

"Thibault has been phenomenal on set pieces with another assist and goal in open play with the help of Luke," Thorne said. "Lavares was solid throughout and came up big with a top corner save late in the second half. The whole backline were quality throughout."

UWA will remain on the road to take on Union on Sunday. The match is set for 4:30 p.m. in Jackson, Tenn.
