Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama men's soccer conceded two goals in the second half to fall to West Florida 3-1 in Gulf South Conference action on Friday.
The match concludes West Alabama's (10-6-1; 7-6-1) regular season and confirms West Florida (12-4-1; 11-2-1) as the 2013 GSC regular season champions.
"West Florida is a very quality side," said UWA head men's soccer coach
Matthew Thorne.
"There is a reason they won conference. We had our opportunities, but unfortunate conceded some sloppy goals. Tonight did show that we are able to compete with anybody, especially going into the conference tournament."
Dillon Gallet put the Argonauts on the board first with a goal in the 18
th minute.
Emmanuel Mondestin recorded his second goal of the season in the 31
st minute to send the Tigers into halftime tied at 1-1.
Felipe Oliveira netted his 10
th goal of the season in the 61
st minute to mark the game winning goal. Marteinn Urbancic tallied the final goal for the Argo's in the 87
th minute.
UWA starting goalkeeper
Lavares Stone recorded three saves, but falls to 9-3-1 on the year. Frederik Bruhn improves to 6-4-1.
"This season we have showed we can score against anybody, but also that we can keep a clean sheet. The conference tournament will see some tight competition, but we will be able to compete with anyone."
UWA is set to face Alabama-Huntsville in the semifinal round of the Gulf South Conference tournament on Nov. 8
th in Pensacola, Fla. The winner will advance to face the winner of West Florida vs. Christian Brothers on Nov. 10
th. The semifinal round is set for 11 a.m.
