LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's tennis team used a strong performance in singles play to score a 5-4 Gulf South Conference victory over Shorter Thursday at the Vaughn Tennis Complex. The UWA women lost to the Lady Hawks, 3-6.
The UWA men improved to 3-1 with the win, 2-0 in GSC play. The West Alabama women are 2-2 overall, 1-1 against GSC opponents. Thursday's match was the first in the GSC for Shorter. The Hawks are 3-3 overall, the Lady Hawks 4-2.

Anton Ivanov,
Kike Ruiz and
Simon Bardell notched singles wins for West Alabama, while Vargas and Ruiz claimed the Tigers' lone win in doubles play.
Dasha Popova and
Shannon McEvoy earned UWA's women's singles victories. Popova and
Emily Gerding scored a doubles win for the West Alabama women.
Both the men and women's teams from West Alabama are off until Thursday when they travel to Tuskegee.
