UNA Spoils UWA Senior Day

Box Score

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – North Alabama limited West Alabama's top four scorers just 12 field goals combined on the way to a 61-46 women's Gulf South Conference basketball victory over the Tigers Saturday at Pruitt Hall.

West Alabama ends the regular season 12-14 overall and 7-11 in GSC play. UNA heads to the GSC Tournament in Birmingham with a 19-9 record, 12-6 in league play.

“We didn't shoot it well. We didn't execute and we took a lot of bad shots,” UWA head coach Craig Roden said. “We have to dig in now and prepare for West Georgia. We are down to the lose and go home part of the year.”

UWA shot just 21 percent from the floor, making only 15 of 69 field goal attempts. The Tigers top four scorers were 12-of-56 from the field. UNA limited the Tigers to just 3-of-13 from the three point line and outrebounded UWA 53-41.

Brittany Weathers scored 12 points to lead UWA scorers. Tamya Thompson and Nikkia Jordan managed 10 apiece. Synthea Reed added to her league-leading rebound total by collecting 13 boards while blocking five shots.

Lauren Fargis scored 12 points to pace UNA. Sarah Bailey had 10 to round out double figure scoring. Bailey and Corrine White had nine rebounds for the Lions. Mekena Randle grabbed eight more rebounds.

“We have accomplished one thing we set out to do a month ago and that was to get to Birmingham as healthy as we can be for the tournament,” Roden said. “We have made some sacrifices in the way we have prepared down the stretch to get to this point healthy as we can be. Hopefully it pays off.”

UWA goes into the tournament as the No. 6 seed and will play West Georgia Friday at 2:30 at the Hanna Center on the Samford University campus.
