Box Score

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team picked up its first Gulf South Conference three-set sweep of the season, defeating Union, 3-0, Friday at Pruitt Hall.

"Tonight was a good match for us to get back on track and get another win in GSC action," UWA head volleyball coach Jordan Lay said. "Tonight our girls really worked through some tough spots and came out with some good experience."

West Alabama defeated Union 25-20, 25-16 and 25-22 to improve to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the GSC. Union dropped to 4-10 and 0-3. The Tigers return to GSC play Saturday by hosting Christian Brothers at 1 p.m.

UWA freshman setter Callie Murphy recorded a season-high 30 assists for a three-set match while also recording 10 digs.

"Callie is always learning," Lay said. "Tonight was a great chance for her to overcome mistakes and improve on her game. Tonight was a big accomplishment for any setter, but especially a freshman."

Sophomore Morgan Ray led the Tiger attack for the fourth consecutive match with 11 kills. Junior Jessica Voyles followed with seven kills and a .600 attack percentage. Libero Lindsey Ball led the defense with 12 digs.

"We're back at .500 in conference matches, which is where we want to be going into Christian Brothers," Lay said. "We just have to do a better job of taking care of the ball and eliminating our own errors."
