LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville edged out the University of West Alabama by a margin of .005 attack percentage to win 3-1 in Gulf South Conference volleyball action on Thursday.
UAH posted .199 to improve to 8-6 overall, 6-4 in the GSC. UWA hit a combined .194 to drop to 5-9 and 4-5. The match began a five conference game home stand for the Tigers that continues Saturday against Valdosta State.
Alabama-Huntsville won set 25-17 and squeaked out sets three and four 26-24, 25-23 respectively. West Alabama won set two 25-19 and totaled 58 kills, leading UAH in every set.
The Chargers managed 50 total kills, led by Haley Snyder, Kendall Knisley and Olivia Bauman who combined for 33. Ashton Baker posted 38 of UAH's 44 assists, while also leading with 14 digs.
Liz Woodard led the Tigers with 18 kills on her way to .395 attack percentage.
Sadie Beam tallied 13 followed by
Yanesha Johnson with 12.
Callie Murphy supported the attack with 27 assists. Beam led UWA's defense with 21 digs, while
Jessica Voyles led with five block assists and one solo block.
The Tigers tip off against the Blazers at 2 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
