VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of West Alabama's 2014 Volleyball season came to a close in 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-17) loss to Valdosta State University in Gulf South Conference action Saturday.
Valdosta State, the sixth ranked team in the NCAA Division II South Region Poll, finishes its season 21-7 overall and 15-4 in the GSC with a berth in the conference tournament. West Alabama concludes its second season under Head Coach
Jordan Lay, ranked seventh in the league at 7-13; 9-21 overall.
"First, I just want to thank all the seniors for all of their hard work," said Lay.
"They have given a lot to this program and have laid a foundation for us to build on. We still have a young team, but we have to learn from all of our experiences this season to move forward in the offseason. We just need to maintain our focus on improving."
Sadie Beam tallied her 11
th double-double of the season, leading the Tigers with 12 kills and  11 digs. The senior ends her career as UWA's 10
th all-time kill leader with 804 career kills and the 10
th all-time dig leader with 886 total digs.
Fellow senior
Lindsey Ball matched Beam's 11 digs. Ball pushes her season total to 445 digs, with 765 in her career through two seasons.
Callie Murphy and
Sam Burgess combined for 33 assists. Murphy tallied 18, giving her 1,074 career assists through two seasons. She currently sits as the program's eighth all-time leader.
Jenna Kirkwood led the Blazers, hitting .452 with 21 kills. She added 11 digs on defense to complete the double-double. Ashley Lala led with 15 digs and Jessica Codato with 35 assists.Â
