Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Breanna Ridgell posted 21 points to lead Christian Brothers to a 54-47 Gulf South Conference women's college basketball victory over West Alabama Saturday at Canale Arena.
The victory improved the Lady Bucs to 11-7 overall and 7-5 in GSC play. West Alabama dropped to 4-13 and 1-10. The Tigers have yet to win on the road in 10 outings.
We gave ourselves a chance again today," UWA head coach
Craig Roden said. "If we keep giving ourselves chances we will start to win."
"The zone gave us some problems again today. Our window of opportunity has not been that big, and we have to stay within that. We got out of that window in the last five minutes of the first half, and never got back in. We started to play fast and gave up some easy baskets to them. We didn't move the ball well in the second half, and were forced to play off the dribble, one thing we don't do well."
West Alabama jumped out to a 10 point lead in the first half, but the Bucs cut the deficit down to three as UWA led 26-23 at the half.
CBU shot 13-of-25 from the field in the second half, after shooting 9-of-28 in the first. The Tigers finished 18-of-51 from the field. The Bucs had 14 points on fast breaks, while holding UWA to two.
West Alabama out rebounded Christian Brothers 36-29.
Ridgell finished 8-of-15 from the field and led with seven rebounds. She led the Bucs' 80 percent free-throw shooting with 5-of-7.
Jada Williams and
Kelcia Bufkin led the Tigers with 11 points each.
Quentinette Odom led with seven boards and finished with nine points.
The Tigers travel to Delta State on Monday for the final in a four-game road swing. West Alabama closes the season by playing six of eight games at home. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Walter Sillers Coliseum. The game can be heard on ESPN 104.9 and ESPN1049.com.
