LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama men's soccer claimed its second straight shutout of the season with a 4-0 victory over Florida Tech at Tiger Stadium on Friday. The Tiger defense extended its streak of no goals allowed in 235 minutes.

UWA improved to 3-0 overall for the first time in program history, while Florida Tech falls to 2-1-1.

"It was a great win over a quality side," said UWA head men's soccer coach Matthew Thorne. "We showed great intensity from the get-go. They are a very well coached and organized team and they caused us a few problems, but we stuck with our game plan. It didn't matter if we had guys coming off the bench, we maintained our intensity through both halves."

Vitor Gazza broke a defensive stalemate in the 31^st minute off of an assist by Evan Beutler. For Gazza, it was his second goal of the season; Beutler's first assist.

Freshman Patrick Carroll set the Tigers ahead 2-0 before the half, scoring his first collegiate goal in the 43^rd minute unaided.

Senior captain Thibault Charmey took over in the second half netting two goals. Charmey turned a rebound from a shot by Carroll in the 55^th minute and tallied his fifth goal of the season unassisted in the 65^th minute. As the team's leading scorer he owns five goals in three matches.

The Tiger defense allowed only three shot's on-goal from the Panthers, while the offense finished 7-for-12 in shots on-goal.

UWA senior goalkeeper Lavares Stone improved to 3-0, while sharing minutes in the second half with freshman Brad Louis. Louis finished with three saves.

FIT goalie Sofus Rasmussen suffered his first loss in two appearances despite three saves.    

UWA men's soccer will take to the road for their first time in 2014 as they travel to take on nationally ranked No. 24 Young Harris College on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. (C.S.T.).

 "Young Harris should be ranked higher than they are now," Thorne said. "Every opponent we've faced has been tougher than the last. If we were to get a result against them it should help us greatly in the rankings, but we're not taking anything for granted. We are at a good place as a team right now, working hard."
