Tigers Fall in Final Day of Dunn Invitational

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – West Alabama volleyball fell to Cedarville 3-1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-18) and Lincoln Memorial 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23) in its last two matches of the 2014 Dunn Hospitality Invitational hosted by Southern Indiana on Saturday.

West Alabama drops to 0-4 overall. Cedarville later fell to McKendree in three sets to move to 2-2 overall, while Lincoln Memorial lost to North Alabama in five sets early in the day to move to 1-4.

Three Yellow Jackets tallied double-digit kills with Hannah Wagner leading with 14 and a .379 attack percentage. Maddie Ladbetter set up 28 assists, while Tori Thompson assisted on five blocks.  

Tiger Freshman Briana Sandifer set her collegiate high of 17 kills on her way to .400 attack percentage and 17.5 points against Cedarville. Callie Murphy continued to be UWA's leading setter with 19 assists as well as digging 11 attacks on defense.

Kiera Holland led Lincoln Memorial with 17.5 points. She was one of four Railsplitters to score double-digit points. Holland totaled 16 kills in 49 attempts.

Jessica Voyles, Elizabeth Culhane and Yanesha Johnson each posted double-digit points for the Tigers in the second match. Voyles led with 13 kills and four block assists, totaling 15 points. Johnson assisted on five blocks, while Culhane lifted 12 kills. Freshman Sam Burgess led with 37 assists. Lindsey Ball totaled 36 digs on the day, totaling 19 against LMU.

The Tigers will remain on the road to open their Gulf South Conference schedule against Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss. on Sept. 9. The match is slated for 7 p.m. at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
