LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Georgia withstood a late rally by West Alabama to post a 61-59 Gulf South Conference women's basketball victory over West Alabama Saturday at Pruitt Hall Gym.

West Georgia improved to 11-6 overall and 6-5 in the GSC. West Alabama dropped to 7-8 and 4-7.

After leading 30-28 at the half, West Georgia stretched its lead to 11 points with 8:28 left in the game. The Tigers rallied to cut the Wolves' lead to 60-59 on a layup by
Kelcia Bufkin with 14 seconds left.

With a chance to send the game into overtime, a pair of shots in the paint by West Alabama came up short as the game clock expired.

"We should have led that game from start to finish. This is a game we should have won," UWA head coach
Rusty Cram said. "Thing is, we came out with no fire, no desire to win.

"We have to learn how to play a full 40 minutes, not just five minutes at the end. That caught up with us today," Cram said. "That's my fault and we will get that corrected tomorrow."

Neither team shot well from the floor, with West Alabama converting just 34 percent and West Georgia 37 percent. The Tigers outrebounded the Wolves 51-41 in a game where the lead changed hands five times.

Angela Davis led West Georgia scoring with 13 points. Taylor Beverly scored 12 points and collected 12 rebounds for the Wolves. Katrina Littlepage chipped in 10 points.

Britney McCloud and
Kelcia Bufkin scored 14 points each to lead West Alabama scorers.
Latisha McCullum added 12 points for the Tigers. McCloud's six rebounds were the most for UWA.

West Alabama continues a five game homestand by hosting Delta State Thursday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. West Georgia is host to Mississippi College on Thursday.
