Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Reilly Comes Up Big Again In Tigers Victory

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Kirsten Reilly led West Alabama women's soccer to victory for the sixth time in seven matches with her seventh game-winning goal in the 32nd minute to lift the Tigers to 1-0 Gulf South Conference victory over West Florida at Tiger Stadium Sunday.

The victory puts UWA on a three game win streak with a 10-3 overall record. With four matches remaining in the regular season, the Tigers currently sit at the top of the GSC standings at 8-1. West Florida falls to 9-4 and 5-3.

"Kirsten has proven herself as one of the best players in the conference," said UWA head coach Graeme Orr.

"We won at West Florida last year, but we wanted to prove our consistency with a win up here on our home field. We played well in the first half and scored one of the best team goals we've scored all year. I thought today that our game management was very good. We responded well under pressure. We understand that being at the top of the league isn't what really matters, it's being at the top at the end of the season. We will enjoy this win and take away the confidence from it, but we will make sure we will be ready for the next one."

Reilly's goal in the first half came on an assist from Katy Morris; her fifth assist of the year. Reilly leads the team now with nine total goals, tripling her total goal count from a year ago.

The Tigers edged out the shooting margin with 4-of-7 shots on-goal, while the Argonauts tallied 2-for-6. UWA goalkeeper Issy Foster (10-3) posted two saves for her seventh shutout of the season, matching her career best for most single-season shutouts. Emily Grammer (2-2) took the loss with three saves.

West Alabama women's soccer will travel to take on Montevallo on Sunday in the final non-conference game of the season. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. in Montevallo, Ala.
