THE SERIES
This is the 33rd meeting between the Tigers and Wolves. West Georgia leads the series 19-13. UWA has won four of the last five meetings.
 
WEST ALABAMA
West Alabama is 4-0 after home wins over Stillman and Cumberland and road victories at Miles and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
 
WEST GEORGIA
West Georgia is also 4-0 and ranked No. 2 in the nation. The Wolves have defeated Catawba on the road and Miles, Fayetteville St. and Clark Atlanta at home.
 
THE COACHES
Brett Gilliland is 9-6 in his second season at UWA, his second as a head coach. Will Hall is 41-14 in his fifth year as a head coach, 16-3 in his second season at UWG.
 
OPENING 4-0
West Alabama is off to a 4-0 start for the first time since the 1982 season. The 1982 Tigers went on to finish 6-4 under head coach Frank North.
 
LOOKING TOWARD 5
With a win over West Georgia the Tigers would start 5-0 for the first time since 1972. The 1972 team is the only team in Tiger history to start a season 5-0.
 
AT HOME UNDER GILLILAND
UWA is 4-4 in games played at Tiger Stadium since Brett Gilliland took over as head coach prior to the 2014 season. The Tigers are 2-0 at home this year, with wins over Stillman and Cumberland.
 
RUN DEFENSE STILL TOPS IN NATION
West Alabama leads the GSC and all of NCAA Division II in rushing defense, allowing an average of just 37.2 yards per game.
 
RECORDS FOR TY HILL
Tiger return man Tyreek Hill set UWA and GSC records by returning two kickoffs for touchdowns in the Tigers victory at Texas A&M-Kingsville last week. He was named GSC Special Teams player of the week for his efforts.
 
THREE ALREADY
Tiger return man Tyreek Hill has already returned two kicks and a punt for touchdowns this season. He has five touchdowns overall in just for games.

JAVAE NEEDS 85
Senior A-Back Javae Swindle needs just 85 rushing yards to move past Matt Willis as the all-time leading rusher in UWA football history.  Swindle has rushed for 2,087 career yards.
 
IT'S A RING THING
UWA 2014-15 championship teams from men's soccer, men's cross country, men's basketball and baseball will be honored in with a ring ceremony at halftime of the UWA-UWG game.
 
THINKING PINK
The game between the Wolves and Tigers is part of UWA's Think Pink Weekend to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the football game, as well as volleyball on Friday and soccer matches on Friday and Sunday.
 
YARDS HARD TO COME BY
The top two rushing defenses in the GSC will be in Tiger Stadium Saturday. West Alabama leads the league, allowing 37.2 yards per game. West Georgia is second at 79.2 yards per game.
 
AND POINTS AS WELL
The Wolves and Tigers also sport the top two scoring defenses in the GSC. West Georgia leads the league, allowing 11.8 points per game and UWA is next at 12.2.
 
LONE STAR … REALLY?
Hero Sports lists the Gulf South Conference as the second-toughest conference in NCAA Division II. The publication says the Lone Star Conference is the best in D II. In head-to-head matches to this point in the season, the GSC is 2-0 with UWA beating Texas A&M-Kingsville and Delta State defeating Texas A&M-Commerce.

BIG NIGHT FOR GARRETT
Garrett Mattix made the most of his opportunity stepping in for injured place kicker Mark Grant by nailing four field goals at TAMUK last week. A senior, Mattix had not kicked a field goal in his UWA career until this season.
 
TESTING THE D
West Georgia will be the stiffest test for UWA's stellar defense this season. The Wolves share the GSC lead and are fourth in the country in scoring offense, averaging 47.5 points per game.
