LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Kirsten Reilly lifted West Alabama to 1-0 victory over Christian Brothers with a goal in the 88
th minute in Gulf South Conference women's soccer action at Tiger Stadium Sunday. The goal marks Reilly's third straight game-winning goal in as many matches.
UWA improves to 7-2 overall and remains the only unbeaten team in the GSC standings at 5-0. Christian Brothers, who entered the match in second place in the standings behind the Tigers, drops to fifth place in the league at 3-2-1; 6-3-1 overall.
"I thought CBU did very well in the first half, dominating the fifty-fifty plays," said UWA head coach
Graeme Orr. "We made some adjustments and competed better in the second half. The game as a whole lacked some quality and we were lucky on some of their shots. I have to credit my assistant
Hollie Loud. She came up with the tactical decision to move Reilly to left mid and it paid dividends."
For the West Alabama defense, it was the fifth shutout of the season as goalkeeper
Issy Foster (5-2) completed three saves for the clean sheet. CBU goalie Emily Wragg (5-3-1) finished with eight saves to take the loss.
The Tigers out-shot the Buccaneers 10-9. Defender
Mara DeLuca led the team 3-for-3 shots on goal, followed by Reilly and
Natalie Mooney who each finished 2-for-2. Tammi Melissa led CBU, shooting 2-for-3.
West Alabama women's soccer returns to action on Friday as it travels to Cleveland, Tenn. to take on Lee University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
