UWA Men's Soccer Sixth in NCAA South Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - The 2015 Gulf South Conference regular season champions, West Alabama, ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Division II South Region Men's Soccer Rankings on Wednesday. The Tigers are one of two GSC teams to make the field of six teams in the poll.

West Alabama ended the regular season 8-6-2 overall and claimed the conference title, as well as the No. 1 seed in the GSC tournament, with a 7-1-1 league record. Nationally ranked No. 22 Lee University ranked third in the poll, behind Palm Beach Atlantic in first and Saint Leo in second. Lynn University and Rollins College separate the Tigers and Lee, tied for fourth.

Lee, who was eliminated by West Florida in the first round of the conference tournament, is 11-5-2 and 6-2-1.

The final NCAA Regional Rankings are used to determine the postseason, with the top four teams from each region advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Wednesday's announcement marked the first time UWA men's soccer has broken into the regional rankings in the program's fourth year of existence. The breakthrough comes in the same season the Tigers earned their first conference regular season title and first appearance in a national Top 25 poll, ranking 11th in the HeroSports.com preseason rankings.

As the No. 1 seed in the GSC Tournament, West Alabama will host the semifinal round on Nov. 6, as well as the championship match on Nov. 8 at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers will take on the fourth seed Shorter University at 7:30 p.m. The match is FREE for all UWA students with a valid student I.D.
