Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lee Hands UWA Third Straight Setback

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Emileigh Swafford poured in 33 points to lead Lee to a 63-58 Gulf South Conference women's college basketball victory over West Alabama Thursday at Pruitt Hall.

The loss was the third consecutive for West Alabama, who dropped to 10-12 overall and 7-11 in the GSC. Lee improved to 14-7 and 11-7 with its fourth straight win over UWA.

"We got beat in all three areas that we had to key on and it cost us the basketball game," UWA head coach Rusty Cram said. "When you have 20 turnovers, allow your opponent 20 offensive rebounds and send them to the line 23 times, more times than not you are going to get beat in this league."

Lee outrebounded the Tigers 44-35 and the Flames scored 22 points off UWA turnovers. Lee converted 18-of-23 from the free throw line, 14-of-19 in the second half.

West Alabama led 29-21 at the half in a game where the lead changed hands three times and was tied three times. Lee outscored the Tigers 42-29 in the second half.

"Every team in the league knows what to do against us right now and that's spread the floor, go to the basket and get to the (free throw) line," Cram said. "This is the second straight game we have made an all-world player out of somebody on the other team."

Union's Amy Philamlee scored 34 against the Tigers last Saturday and Swafford followed with 33 Thursday.

Erin Walsh was the only other Lee player in double figures, finishing with 10 points. Christina Johnson collected a game-high 15 rebounds for the Flames.

Britney McCloud scored 18 points to lead West Alabama. Latisha McCullum came off the bench to score 16 and Kelcia Bufkin chipped in 10.

West Alabama is host to Shorter Saturday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day. Lee travels to West Georgia on Saturday.
